Farmers Markets

Support Your Local Sustainable Farmer by Insisting on GMO-Free Eggs and Meat

Farmers' Markets and Tailgate Markets are booming, as consumers seek healthy food that is locally grown. Shoppers at the Farmers Market may assume that "natural" and "pastured" products are free of GMOs. Unfortunately, many local farmers use conventional (GMO) feed because they believe customers won't pay the higher prices necessary to cover the cost of non-GMO feed.

Eggs, pork, turkey, and chicken at the Farmer's Market may come from animals that are raised humanely outdoors but are consuming GMOs, which are then passed on to you. Ask your farmer if their animals are eating conventional feed. Tell your farmer that you would like to pay more for GMO-free eggs and meat. Spread the word and help our farmers transition to non-GMO feeds for their animals.

Let's avoid situations like this Oregon Family Farm that had to go out of business because customers wanted cheaper, GMO products.
